When the 2011 NBA Finals started, it began as a classic rematch. Pitting the Miami Heat against the Dallas Mavericks, this series was a rematch of the ’06 Finals that was won by the Heat in six games. The 2001 Heat featured Dwyane Wade, who led the squad five years previous, along with new superstar teammates LeBron James and Chris Bosh. But the Mavericks had destiny and Dirk Nowitzki on their side. The 7-foot German was determined not to repeat the disappointment of five years ago, leading the Mavericks to their first championship with a 4-2 series victory. Dallas fell behind 2-1 heading into game 4 but reeled off three straight wins, culminating in a 105-95 win on the road in Game 6. As if it needed any help, it cemented Nowitzki’s standing as one of the greatest power forwards of all time.
